Avoid lithium, the VA prescribed it to me for eight years. In my opinion it destroyed my teeth. $32,000 later I have full mouth restoration- all new teeth. Get on Lamotrigine. It does wonders and my only side effect is a little dry mouth. It is aka Lamictal.

Within the first 17m, I just had 80% of my questions on psychosis answered that my psyche couldn’t. Apparently I’ve been psychotic quite a few times in the past 5 years and NO ONE had any idea, including myself. Just like Victoria, my psychotic features were presented during mania and they weren’t scary AT ALL. If anything, it helped me grow into my faith more lol. 😂

I love his explanation of it being circular, it's so accurate. I see so much stigma for the word "bipolar" I would rather it be called "manic depression." It's more descriptive and less easy to use as an insult.

I have to say USA is just as clueless of mental health as I am. DSS, HHS, hot lines, etc. don't work together and offer no clear guidance. It's a black hole for family's seeking help for adult family members going through this illness. There's aggression and an uneasiness of being unsafe around them. What to do then. My son, is now homeless. He was in a shelter, they sent him to a facility for mental evaluation, he is conscience enough to know he doesn't want to be medicated he leaves the facility and now sleeping on my front porch. He's alienated from everyone, hotels etc. It's taken a toll on everyone. I don't feel safe with him in my home and my heartbreaks to see him homeless and ill. I called so many places and always end up back to square one because they deem him an adult. I can go on and on. Not to blame anyone but who do you really have to turn to.

Very profound story with that positive energy 🙏💎🙏I’m bipolar since 1998 , experienced 5 psychosis, and actually I embraced these episodes because it gave me in the aftermath a deep insight in my self.Acceptance is a very important part of the healing process. And about the lifetime medication? Just a few pills a day, so what ?😌As an artist I live a more than happy life in freedom. Of course some structure but actually no boundaries. All matters is the right point of view.I’m very grateful that all those years I am surrounded by empathetic medical support, but you must trust your own inner self….Thank you for your recognizable blog.🙏😘🙏

My husband wouldn’t be here, my siblings, my son, so many friends of mine (that have BP parents) wouldn’t exist and that makes me so sad to think about… my dad is BP, my husband is BP, I’m one of 6 of kids and one brother is BP (I’m not). Life is SO hard with BP so i DO understand. It’s a big decision!

I was gobsmacked to hear your story. My daughter’s father had exactly the same experience as you. He had his first major depressive episode in 2008 when he just on the sofa for months staring out of his face. Then when he had a manic episode, he also went to an airport and wanted to board a plane to Pakistan. He had grandiose delusions that he is Alexander the Great or an assassin. He also had some delusions connecting to the Da Vinci Code. (We watched the film together before and it got into his delusions.) Then as the first airport did not let him get through since he did not even have a ticket or a passport, he sat in a taxi and went to another airport. The taxi driver called the police as he did not pay the huge bill. Same thing happened at the other airport, and the police arrested him and took him to hospital for a mental health assessment. Somehow he walked out from there and sat in another taxi asking him to take him home which was hours away from the airport. Once home, he gave the address of his father for the taxi driver to go and get the payment from his retired dad, who was fuming as the bill was more than £500. A few days later the police arrested him and got him into psychiatric hospital where he stayed for months. Unfortunately, he was never compliant with treatment plan and medication, which made him very dangerous and unpredictable all the time, so he was unable to be a parent to our kids and therefore my daughters have been growing up without their father. We have not been in contact for over 10 years but due to his criminal activities whilst having manic episodes and psychosis all the time, there are lots of reports about him on the police records and this is now leading to a court case as he is harassing not only me but random people from the public as well. He has been causing so much anxiety to me for the last 15 years whilst at the same time, I have been raising my daughters alone.

While the 'scope' of possibility of these'pool' of genes that 'may' cause BP, it would be interesting to 'group' these pools of genes sequences to be used as a potensial of 'Individual' antibody because there is in my 'suspiscion' that BP is an 'autoimmune' or immune 'initiated' condition. To find 'that Individual' particular genes sequences that are responsible for this 'particular individual' is like finding a needle ina Haystack. The trouble is if a Drug company involved in this case it will try to moneterise this. The 'most' broad attempt for this situation is to try to find WHICH Enzyme is targeted by these 'pool of Genes' Then this will be able to become' general' treatment rather than 'individualised just like many of the new anti cancer of Monoclone Antibodies drugs eg Rituximab etc etc It has nothing to do with reproduction of human but in trying to help find the CAUSE of BP, but Drug company are just making profits by producing more and more drugs to try even Psylocybin etc Very disppointed in how much people only care to treat the symptoms not the roots of the problem

I had my first manic/ psychotic episode at age 42. Then once more 2 years later. Both episodes lasted 6 months at least. I had zero control of what I was thinking saying or doing the entire time. No moments of clarity. I could write forever about what happened. The destruction of my life was devastating. I am well now. It’s been 3 and a half years of stability. I agree with all of the advice given here. Medication is non negotiable for me I take it every day. I also attend therapy weekly. I track my sleep which is so key. And keep track of my spiritual thoughts… which are a sacred part of who I am but goes completely whacked if I go manic. I am so grateful to find this channel. I have experienced the stigma and have felt pretty isolated. These conversations help me greatly.

Christian Brando was a bipolar and the shooting happened during his manic episode. He only was ok after 2005 when he was medically allowed to get medication and he told his former legal guardian in a phone call before his death from an inherited lung disease that after medication he finally found peace. His psychiatrists as a child and teen could not help him. It was the new medical help that have him a few years of peace before his death

Thank you for the discussion. It seems those who have Bipolar, even in my support group for those with depression and Bipolar, psychosis was never discussed. I felt so alone in the pain of a major episode 10 yrs last month and this aniversary really hit me. I seriously could have ended my life in a major car crash but thank God no one else was hurt and I only had 4 bruises to show for it. I left $60k of property damage but that could be fixed. The trauma of that experience still haunts me to this day. Still continuing to take my medication and in therapy.

The problem is hyper-sexuality feels so ‘alive’ and fabulous the last thing I want to do is stop the action that results from it when it’s happening.
